Crossover Gripper

The addition of the wings has greatly enhanced the feeling of control for the child that needs help with the grip posture. It is essentially the same shape as “The Pencil Grip” used for many years by Occupational Therapists. The child who wraps the thumb or grips a pencil in many fingers or the fist does so to get a better “feel” for the pencil. Once the bizarre posture becomes habit it is difficult to change because of the “feel factor” called proprioceptive feedback. Tucking the pointer and thumb tips under the wings greatly improves the “feel” making it easier for the child to accept coaching and develop a more relaxed and functional grip habit. As the zoom image will show, the plastic is pliable enough to stretch onto our intermediate and thick triangular pencils.
